Local Student Powers Up at Awards CeremonyIssued:15/10/2007A Cornish student has been named as a finalist in the Shell Step Programme Awards, designed to provide undergraduates with real life experience in small to medium-sized businesses. Miles Goldstone, 20 from Lanner near Redruth, who is studying Business Management at the University College Plymouth, was placed at Ellis Electrical Engineering Ltd based in Scorrier. Ellis Electrical Engineering Ltd works both locally and nationally with developers, main contractors and blue chip retail companies and companies such as Western Power helping them with all their electrical and mobile generator needs. Miles was tasked with drawing up a business plan and researching the potential for expanding the company?s generator fleet into the event market. He came up with a business plan to hire out the generators for outdoor events at weekends such as weddings, music shows, or other events that need electrical power outside. Miles had to present his business plan to a panel of judges for the Shell Step Programme Awards at the Tremough Campus in Penryn. Miles said: ?My placement with Ellis Electrical was a great chance for me to put the skills I have learned at university into practice. I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity and responsibility to drive this project forward. It is very rewarding to see the Event Power Services business plan being implemented. It was a pleasure to work for a dynamic and growing company such as Ellis Electrical and I hope to contribute to their future success.? Following the market research for the Cornwall area Miles found there was a lot of interest from potential clients in the generators and from that the business plan to hire out the generators was formed. Grant Ellis who owns Ellis Electrical Engineering was so impressed with the business plan he decided to put it in to action. Grant said, ?Miles attitude and application has made a positive contribution to the business during his time with us. He has taken control of the brief provided to him, carried out detailed market research and produced a business plan. This has led the company to make capital investment with the potential for additional job creation in the future.? Ellis Electrical Engineering Ltd is now offering the hire of the super silent generators on the weekends to anyone who needs the use of outdoor electrical supply.
