PLUSBUS gets ticket to advertise
Issued:03/08/2007The national scheme offering joined-up bus and train journeys is to recieve another profile boost with advertising on the back of up to 20 million train tickets. The advert will spread the message about PLUSBUS to millions of rail passengers who may wish to use local bus services to get to and from the station. PLUSBUS allows rail passengers to add unlimited local bus travel at the start, destination or both ends of their train journey. The advertisement follows the first ever national advertising campign for PLUSBUS, with more than three-quarters of a million leaflets distributed at around 1,000 train stations across the country. PLUSBUS is administered by Journey Solutions, a partnership funded by six of Britain?s largest public transport operators; Arriva, Blazefield/Transdev, First, Go-Ahead, National Express and Stagecoach. Journey Solutions is supported by the Confederation of Passenger Transport and the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), which was instrumental in securing the new advertising. Jonathan Radley, Journey Solutions? Commercial Director said: ?This advertising will be a massive boost for PLUSBUS. In time, key messages about the convenience and value of PLUSBUS will be in the pocket of virtually every train customer in the UK.? PLUSBUS is designed to reduce congestion by encouraging near door to door journeys by public transport. It provides additional revenue for bus operators, commission for train operators and demonstrates the industry?s commitment to better integration between transport modes. Sales of PLUSBUS grew by 55 per cent last year, with almost three-quarters of a million journeys made. Sales are forecast to grow at a faster rate this year, with the introduction of new schemes, the expansion of schemes to include season ticket and an enhanced marketing and public relations drive. Andrew Robertson, Head of Marketing from the Association of Train Operating Companies said: ?We have a long-standing and close relationship with Journey Solutions as a result of our work to offer integrated transport solutions. We are delighted to play our part in arranging for PLUSBUS to benefit from this exciting advertising channel to assist PLUSBUS to reach its key audience of existing train customers.? The new tickets will be rolled out as each operator orders new ticket stock. Jonathan continued: ?PLUSBUS helps increase bus ridership levels, frees up space in station car parks, provides a revenue stream for both bus and rail operators and is a tangible demonstration of a commitment to integrated transport. We are determined to increase awareness and sales still further, and this new advertising campaign will do just that.?
