Cornish software company casts the net for .NET Issued:18/05/2007

A Cornish IT company is expanding its team responsible for some of the most technically demanding business software.

CIOS Ltd, based in St Austell, is expanding its .NET and SQL team, which develops software codes to run databases for its local, national and international client base.

The company already has eight full-time staff in Cornwall with a further four based in Italy. Its database programs are used in a wide range of industries including insurance, financial services, healthcare, aerospace and call centres.

Justin Clarke, CIOS Managing Director said: ?We know that Cornwall has a huge number of talented software programmers but in many cases they can?t use their skills because smaller organisations simply can?t tackle major .NET or SQL applications. Working as part of a larger, and growing, team offers the opportunity of getting involved in some pretty significant projects.?

CIOS? databases are used for a range of purposes, from back office control systems, to Customer Relationship Management, to archive storage and retrieval.

While the standard method of retrieving information from a database is through a PC, CIOS has developed a range of hi-tech methods of database access.

This includes using barcode scanning to retrieve records, for example in a large document archiving system used by Rolls Royce Aerospace, or by SMS text message, with data returned to the users? mobile phone.

CIOS has also developed cutting-edge biometric systems with their chosen partner where fingerprint recognition devices can be used in conjunction with a database management system to register at a hotel reception and gain access to an allocated room.

Justin continued: ?This is an opportunity to get involved in some unique projects and help us play our part in turning Cornwall into ?silicon coastline?.?

In addition to CIOS database work, the company also develops multimedia presentations for use as sales or training tools, or as part of businesses websites. The company has its roots in website development, and continues to provide websites for a number of major UK clients.
