Renewable energy information roadshow hits North Devon

Homeowners in North Devon are being offered the chance to find out how renewable energy can help them beat rising energy costs at two roadshows run by one of the region’s leading experts in the field.

Nathan Billings was one of the UK’s first Renewable Energy graduates and has overseen the installation of countless green energy projects across Devon and Cornwall.

On Tuesday 7 and Tuesday 28 October, Nathan will be speaking at two evening events in Barnstaple and Bideford designed to help North Devon homeowners make sense of new technologies which harness power from the wind, sun and other sustainable sources.

The free information evenings will cover how renewable energy technologies can be incorporated into new and existing buildings, factors to bear in mind when choosing a renewable energy source and how much the technology can save householders.

The Barnstaple and Bideford roadshows are part of a series of events being run across Devon as a result of the growing interest in energy from environmentally friendly sources.

Nathan commented: “More than ever, people want to cut the ever-growing bills for oil and electricity and do their bit for the environment. But of course the choice of renewable energies can be daunting and confusing. The aim of these free roadshows is to talk through the benefit of each kind of technology and, with simple, straightforward language, show how homeowners can use them in practice.”

The events, which start at 6.45pm, are being hosted at the Park Hotel in Barnstaple on Tuesday 7 October and the Riversford Hotel in Bideford on Tuesday 28 October.

The roadshows will cover examples of how renewable energy has been used in Devon to heat buildings, generate electricity and provide hot water for both homes and businesses.

Nathan continued: “We’ll be looking at how far technology has come in the last few years. It is now relatively straightforward to connect a small wind turbine and sell excess electricity back to the national grid. Solar hot water panels now use the latest materials to ensure that even on cloudy days, they can drastically cut the amount of energy needed to heat water, a significant element of household utility bills.”

While many householders automatically think of solar panels or wind turbines, renewable energy sources can include heating systems which use wood pellets or extract warmth from the air or ground.

Nathan graduated in 2006 from the University of Exeter’s Tremough Campus from what, at the time, was the only Renewable Energy degree in the country.

He has since been involved in a large number of projects to include renewable energies in commercial and domestic properties across the region.

Nathan is currently the Technical Director of South West-based renewable energy specialists Capture Energy.
