PLUSBUS sales up 100% in a yearLatest sales figures for Britain's integrated train and bus ticketing product, PLUSBUS, have shown a 100% increase year-on-year.Sales for June 2007 were double that of June 2006, with almost 10,000 PLUSBUS tickets sold and more than 65,000 train and bus journeys made using PLUSBUS this June. PLUSBUS tickets allow customers to add unlimited local bus travel around their origin, destination or both ends of their rail journey with revenue shared between bus and train operators. The two-fold growth follows the launch at the beginning of this year of the first-ever nationwide promotion and advertising campaign for PLUSBUS tickets. PLUSBUS has been promoted through a dedicated leaflet distributed to around 1,000 rail stations nationwide, on station posters, articles in passenger and stakeholder newsletters and advertising on the backs of 20 million rail tickets. So far this year, 25 new zones have been introduced, covering 52 railway stations, including some of the Britain?s largest towns and cities such as Liverpool and Cambridge. More destinations will become available from Sunday 9 September. There has also been significant organic growth in ticket sales thanks to better targeted local marketing by train operators . Journey Solutions is a partnership of Britain?s six largest public transport groups; Arriva, Blazefield/Transdev, First, Go-Ahead, National Express and Stagecoach. It is also supported by the Association of Train Operating Companies and the Confederation of Passenger Transport. Jonathan Radley, Commercial Director of Journey Solutions, said: ?The last year has been a period of consistently rising growth in PLUSBUS ticket sales, thanks increased marketing and the introduction of new schemes. That?s great news for bus and train operators, both in terms of additional revenue and also in demonstrating that they are taking integrated transport seriously.? Working in partnership with bus operators, Journey Solutions has introduced season tickets in many more areas where previously only day tickets have been available. The number of day PLUSBUS tickets sold has increased by 116%, while season ticket sales have grown by 52% in a year. The number of new schemes in southern England has been particularly significant, along with the availability of PLUSBUS season tickets for the first time ever in Scotland. The increase in PLUSBUS sales means incremental revenue for bus companies, additional commission for train operators as well as some relief for over-crowded station car parks. Jonathan continued: ?PLUSBUS offers a win-win solution for train and bus operators, customers, local authorities and the environment. Although the growth has been phenomenal, in some ways it is unsurprising when you consider the benefits PLUSBUS offers travellers ? easy, convenient and great value ticketing for their entire journey. But we?d still like to see more operators come on board in those areas which are not served by PLUSBUS.?
