New service to slash the cost of IT equipment

A Cornish company has launched a new service designed to dramatically cut the cost of IT equipment for local businesses.

With many companies reluctant to invest in brand new computers and IT equipment, the award-winning Electronic Waste Company has opened a showroom in Pool selling thousands of used and nearly new items.

The showroom, known as Computer Spares Warehouse, is the only one in the South West on this scale and will have around 30,000 separate items in stock at any one time. For the first time in the region, it allows companies to procure every element of a second-hand IT system under one roof.

The equipment has been disposed of by organisations such as schools, the NHS and large companies across the South of England. The items, which are comprehensively checked and tested, include monitors, computer base units, printers, cabling, networking equipment and peripherals such as mice and keyboards.

Damian Lambkin, The Electronic Waste Company’s Managing Director said: “We started as a recycling business, but much of the equipment we now take in is virtually unused or ordered originally with the highest specifications. It would be environmental madness to simply scrap and melt down this equipment and that’s why we set up the Computer Spares Warehouse. It’ll help Cornish businesses to save money and the environment at the same time.”

The business will stock spare parts such as such as computer memory, hard drives, and graphics cards for sale to enthusiasts and companies with an experienced computer technician. Damian said: “Historically there have been two choices for second-hand IT; the uncertainty small ads or mail order. Now, at our Pool Business Park warehouse there’s a local solution where companies can come, see the equipment, get a number of matching items and source all the items they need to connect the system together. That means you get peace of mind as well as significant savings.”

Every item of IT equipment processed by the Electronic Waste Company is checked to ensure it is in working order and any data destroyed with a similar system to that used by the Ministry of Defence. All the equipment sold will be traced from the point of collection to the point of sale, to give Computer Spares Warehouse customers complete peace of mind. The Electronic Waste Company is also offering a limited range of Computer Spares Warehouse products for sale via a retail outlet in Falmouth and is planning to open satellite stores in other towns in the county later this year.

The company is also developing a soon-to-be launched Computer Spares Warehouse website selling the IT equipment. Last year, The Electronic Waste Company scooped a National Recycling Award for its work to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic goods disposed of by companies. Nothing the company receives is sent to landfill. Last year, the company was award ISO9001 certification for its commitment to quality management and also holds ISO14001 accreditation for its environmental processes. The new Computer Spares Warehouse is located at Unit 2, Pool Business Park just off Wilson Way in Pool. For more information call 0845 201 1380.
